Answer: It is a three-day education program (followed by a twelve-week aftercare program) for children 6 to 12 years old who are not involved in alcohol or drugs, but who come from an alcoholic or drug-dependent family. The program goals are parent-child communication, education of the child on the disease, trust building, and learning to identify and share feelings. Question: I am a 42-year old woman and an alcoholic. In addition, I take lithium as directed and I am monitored by my psychiatrist for manic-depressive illness. My question is: would I be accepted for treatment in an alcohol treatment center ? Answer: Yes. You would be welcome and since it is not uncommon for those suffering from manic-depressive illness to also suffer from alcohol abuse, good treatment centers have the experience and expertise to help you with your specific situation.
