Our Intensive Outpatient Program is designed for individuals 18 years and older seeking primary treatment for alcoholism, addiction and codependency. This program provides assessment and primary treatment services. Patients live at home and travel to the main Betty Ford Center campus, located in Rancho Mirage, California, where they participate in treatment Monday–Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for eight weeks.
Pending medical and clinical assessment, Intensive Outpatient may be recommended for individuals who do not require medically supervised detoxification; live within a reasonable driving distance from the Betty Ford Center campus; and/or individuals who may have completed a residential treatment program and are looking for additional support in their early recovery.
During treatment, each patient is assigned a treatment team, which includes a physician, primary counselor, case manager, spiritual care counselor, family counselor, and chemical dependency technician. This team is responsible for assessing and working with each patient to establish an individualized plan of care and post–treatment recommendations designed to support ongoing recovery. Upon completion of treatment, patients will possess a better understanding of the disease of addiction, and recognize the necessity and importance of 12–Step involvement.

Treatment in the Outpatient Program is an intense, focused experience. Each evening is filled with treatment activities including individual and group therapy sessions, as well as educational lectures, with special emphasis on issues occurring in the home and work environments. Patients are asked to attend 12–Step meetings in the community and begin establishing a sober support system. Additionally, family and/or loved ones are encouraged to participate in the Center's Family Program and Children's Program.
The Intensive Outpatient Program gives patients the opportunity to continue living at home and work in the community while attending treatment. Patients are able to begin implementing the recovery skills developed throughout the program and have the opportunity to process their experience in a safe and supportive group environment. By doing this, they begin to establish a foundation for life–long sobriety.
The end of treatment marks the beginning of a partnership with Betty Ford Center alumni. A local and active alumni chapter is available to support patients, their family and friends in their new lives of sobriety.
Our programming is designed to provide long–term care, beyond primary treatment. Patients participating in Intensive Outpatient may decide to continue working on their progress by joining Therapeutic Aftercare offered at Betty Ford Center as an additional step in their continuum of care.
