Inpatient Treatment

Adults 18 years of age and older come to the Betty Ford Center for treatment because their life under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs has become unmanageable. Our Inpatient Program provides a thorough clinical and medical assessment, detoxification, and primary treatment services. Patients live in gender-specific residence halls on a private, safe and secure 20-acre campus, located in Rancho Mirage, California. Inpatient Treatment may be recommended for individuals who are admitting for 30 days of treatment; individuals who may require a prolonged detoxification; and/or individuals who may require stabilization prior to an extended treatment stay in Residential Day Treatment.

During the treatment stay each patient is assigned a treatment team, which includes a physician, nurse, psychologist, primary counselor, case manager, spiritual care counselor, family counselor, dietician, fitness trainer, and chemical dependency technician. This team is responsible for assessing and working with each patient to establish an individualized plan of care and post-treatment recommendations designed to support ongoing recovery. Upon completion of treatment, patients will possess a better understanding of the disease of addiction, and recognize the necessity and importance of 12-step involvement.

Each day consists of a full schedule of treatment activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, individual therapy, specialty groups, fitness, educational lectures, and group therapy, which is the core of treatment at the Betty Ford Center.

During their stay, all patients develop a foundation in 12-Step recovery and are presented with the necessary tools to enhance the progress made during treatment. Additionally, family and/or loved ones are encouraged to participate in the Center's Family Program and Children's Program.

The end of treatment in Rancho Mirage marks the beginning of a partnership with Betty Ford Center alumni. Chapters and individuals around the world continue to support patients, their family and friends in their new lives of sobriety.

Betty Ford Center recognizes long-term treatment as the "Gold Standard" for care. Because of the many benefits associated with long-term treatment, 90-days or longer, is the optimal length of stay. After completion of Inpatient Treatment, some patients may decide to extend their stay and enter into Residential Day Treatment, offered at Betty Ford Center as an additional step in the continuum of care.
