Dr. Peter's Pain Blog
Chronic pain is defined as any pain that endures for more than three months. Those of you who suffer from it know all too well that it can be all-consuming and seemingly life-ending.
I have created this blog so that people who suffer from chronic pain may have a forum to communicate. Often they feel isolated, misunderstood, abandoned and think that there is no hope. This viewpoint is no longer valid and should be challenged.
I say this because it has become clear over the last 10 years that chronic pain is a disease of the brain; when it is treated as such, there can be dramatic results. We have developed a treatment paradigm called neurocognitive enhancement. Within this paradigm we view the brain of the chronic pain patient as dysfunctional and treat it in a targeted fashion.
As this blog progresses, I will explain the rationale for this view and tell you how it works. Feel free to respond and ask questions.
