Clinical Diagnostic Evaluation

A Clinical Diagnostic Evaluation (CDE) is a multidisciplinary, medically-based assessment process designed to determine whether or not an individual meets diagnostic criteria for a substance related disorder or another psychiatric condition. Although the CDE Program was originally designed to evaluate licensed professionals, we welcome the opportunity to assist anyone who is concerned about their use of substances and how their substance use might be impacting their overall health and functioning. Particular attention is given to various psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders, chronic pain, psychological and cognitive functioning and personality issues and their relationship, if any, to substance use.

The goals of the Betty Ford Center’s Clinical Diagnostic Evaluation are to:

  1. Determine whether or not the client is manifesting signs and symptoms of a substance related disorder or another psychiatric condition.

  2. Assess the client’s degree of physical, social, psychological, or cognitive impairment and, if requested, evaluate the client’s current suitability for returning to work in a safety sensitive position.

  3. Recommend appropriate continuing care or treatment options (when needed) to help restore the client’s health and functioning.
Length of Program 2-3 day outpatient program
Admission Days Please call for an appointment.
Ages 18 years and older..
Requirements

We prefer that the client participates in the evaluation process with his or her significant other or a concerned family member, colleague or friend. However, if that individual is unable to participate in person, the client, once they are admitted, will be asked to allow the CDE Team to conduct telephone interviews with concerned persons.

The review of collateral information is essential to the CDE process. The client will be asked to supply the CDE Team with relevant collateral documentation such as hospital, medical and treatment records, prior psychological and psychiatric evaluations, and legal documents (e.g., police reports) during the evaluation, or ideally, prior to the evaluation begins.

Lodging Lodging at reduced rates is available for our clients.
