Financial Questions

What is included in the cost of treatment?
The not- for- profit Betty Ford Center offers an all- inclusive approach to pricing.  For your convenience we provide a comparison worksheet that outlines what is included and not included in the cost of our treatment.  We encourage you to use this worksheet when comparing our services to other facilities.  We are sure you will find that our treatment costs are comparable to, if not more affordable, than many other like facilities.

Are there any additional charges I need to be aware of?
Medication, other than that used for Detox is not included in standard treatment rates.  Patients are not allowed to use medication brought from home.  BFC uses an independent pharmacy vendor, Pharmerica, to fill prescriptions.  If insurance information is provided at the time of admission, Pharmerica will first bill the insurance for any medications ordered.  Pharmerica requires a credit card to be on file for all medication charges not covered by insurance.  If insurance information is not provided then all medication charges will be billed to the credit card on file.  Please note:  Pharmerica is not able to bill all insurance plans, including but not limited to:  Kaiser, HealthNet, IEHP, MediCal, and non-US based plans.

Certain specialized medical services are only needed by a small percentage of our patients.  For that reason, they are not built in to regular treatment costs.  These services may include, but are not limited to:  special equipment (such as scooters to aid with mobility), dentists, outside medical appointments, and/or specialized laboratory testing.  Please note:  Occasionally, BFC medical staff may determine that a patient needs a one to one attendant for assistance with daily living activities or safety purposes. If an attendant becomes necessary, up to three days of attendant services are provided at no additional cost.  Any additional attendant needs will be charged at $20 per hour.

What methods of payment do you accept?
Betty Ford Center accepts credit cards, debit cards, cashier’s checks, certified checks, wire transfers, or cash.  Betty Ford Center does not accept personal checks.  We are required to report cash received in the amount of $10,000 or more to the IRS.  Payment is due at the time of admission.

Please note:  Most debit cards have a daily limit which may preclude their use for full payment at the time of admission.  If you plan to use a debit or credit card it is recommended that you call your bank prior to admission to inform them of the upcoming charge.  A receipt will be provided to the payer upon request.

What is your refund policy?
$5,000 of the required program cost is non-refundable.  Our charges are based on a set per diem rate and all unused monies are refunded to the payer.

Will Betty Ford Center bill my insurance?
Although Betty Ford Center does not bill insurance directly, with the patient’s written authorization BFC will submit billing documents to an insurance provider after completion of treatment for a retrospective review.

Is Betty Ford Center a Medicare Provider?
No, Betty Ford Center is not a participating provider with Medicare.
